Edit Telegram bot commands online
Bot commands appear in the menu and in hints when a user types “/”. You can set different lists for private chats, groups, administrators and languages.
Do it in a few clicks — no code, no server, right in your browser.
Open the commands editorFormat
One command per line, the name and the description separated by a dash:
start - Start the bot
help - Show help
settings - Open settings
tip - A hint only you can see [ephemeral]- Up to 100 commands per list.
- Name: 1–32 characters, lowercase English letters, digits and underscores. A leading “/” is removed automatically.
- Description: 1–256 characters.
[ephemeral]marks commands whose answer is visible only to the sender (Bot API 10.2).
Scopes
| Scope | Who sees the list |
|---|---|
default | Everyone, if no narrower scope matches. |
all_private_chats | All private chats. |
all_group_chats | All groups and supergroups. |
all_chat_administrators | Administrators of all groups. |
chat | One specific chat (chat_id). |
chat_administrators | Administrators of one chat. |
chat_member | One member of one chat (chat_id + user_id). |
Each scope can additionally have lists per language_code (two-letter ISO 639-1). Telegram picks the most specific scope, then the user's language, then the list without a language.
Same with curl
curl -X POST "https://api.telegram.org/bot$BOT_TOKEN/setMyCommands" \
--form-string 'commands=[{"command":"start","description":"Start the bot"},{"command":"help","description":"Show help"}]' \
--form-string 'scope={"type":"all_private_chats"}' \
--form-string "language_code=en"Delete a list:
curl -X POST "https://api.telegram.org/bot$BOT_TOKEN/deleteMyCommands" \
--form-string 'scope={"type":"all_group_chats"}'Tips
- Keep descriptions short — they are truncated in narrow menus.
- Changes appear for users after the chat is reopened; clients cache the list.
- Use the Menu button tab to show the command list or a Mini App on the button next to the input field.
